Front row: Revd Pinfold Sumner (centre), Revd Richart (left of centre), Cyril Wyre, church organist (right of centre) and Alex Snow, soprano (right of organist). St Leonard's Church was designed by Evans & Jolly who won the competition in 1871 judged by Sir George Gilbert Scott. Pevsner described it as 'a simple town church, stone, with mechanical detail.' The Church was demolished in 1979, being replaced by a new church to the north of the Lincoln Road bridge.
