Byron's first poems were printed by the firm of S & J Ridge whose premises in the Market Place are today occupied by G H Porter's grocery shop. Whilst overseeing the printing of his poems, Byron is said to have stayed at the Clinton Arms Hotel across the Market Place. This picture comes from the book 'Newark as a Publishing Town' by T M Blagg, published in 1898.
