Presented to His Grace the Duke of Newcastle in 1914 on the occasion of his being made the Town's second Honorary Freeman. The casket, designed by Mr Harry Cook, Jeweller of Chain Lane, and decorated in silver is made from wood taken from the pertrifed Roman Bridge found when Cromwell Lock was excavated. The return of the casket to the Town Council, in May 1982, was made possible by donations made by former Mayors, relatives of former Mayors, former Councillors and friends of the Town. They are: V H Dobson, P Blatherwick, D R Payne, M Clark, G F Hollingworth, T Healey, S I Derry, J F Yates, A G Hine.
