Home of the noted poet and botanist, Erasmus Darwin FRS (1731-1802). Erasmus was the grandfather of Charles Darwin who, in 1859 published the revolutionary 'Origin of Species'. Charles' branch of the family, however, never lived at Elston but at Downe in Kent.
