The small bus shown in photos 1 and 3 is the same vehicle, owned by A.R.R. King of Folkingham, lincolnshire. The coachwork by Stephenson's of Newark is mounted on a Crossley chassis, this being a conversion of one of the Crossley tenders made for the Royal Flying Corps during the 1914-18 War. Crossley's were motorcar manufacturers, but supplied nearly 10,000 of these tenders, which gained a reputation for strength and reliability. Many were sold as government surplus when the war ended. Identifying features of the RFC tender origin include the very low bonnet line giving excellent forward visibility, also the unusual wire-spoked twin rear wheels for improved load carrying over rough ground. The registration number CT 4994 (visible on photo 3) was issued by the Kesteven district of Lincolnshire County Council in circa 1922/3 and this would be the date that the bus was built. The signboard in the side window reads - Geo. Stephenson and Sons Coachbuilders Newark.
