St Augustine's Church - The Lectern

The lectern was given by Eliza Hutchinson (1896-1988) in memory of her husband Lewis Hutchinson (1893-1974). The church was a Mission Church of the parish Church of St Mary Magdalene. It was built in 1886 and officially opened on 22nd July 1886 to serve the growing community of the New Town area of Newark. It closed in may 1998 because of dwindling congregation numbers, and was subsequently converted into luxury flats.
