Interior of W P L Harrison's photographic office at Harrison and Co's Motor Engineers 1901 or 1907

Carter Gate
Newark on Trent
England

This was located at the rear of Harrison and Co's Motor Engineers. The calendar on the wall is dated Wed 20th March, therefore this picture was taken in 1901 or 1907. Note the interesting collection of cameras, and photographic ephemera. On the wall are advertisements for Kodak and Wellington films and papers (J.B.B. Wellington studied architecture but soon turned to photography. In the 1880s he worked with George Eastman in New York, and then returned to England to become manager of Kodak at Harrow, before eventually setting up his own firm. He developed POP paper, canvas bromide, a fast-grained emulsion and, in 1889, a negative intensifier.) There is also a large photograph of a Crossley 30hp engine, a wall mounted telephone and an early table-top phone. The room is lit by electric lighting.
