St Leonard's Church was designed by Evans & Jolly who won the competition in 1871 judged by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The Church was demolished in 1979. Pevsner described it as 'a simple town church, stone, with mechanical detail.' The panelling in the picture was given to the Church by public and private subscription in honour of Lt. Col. Robert Frank Byron Hodgkinson.
