Woolworths 3d and 6d Stores, No 36 Stodman Street. Woolworths came to Newark amid a flurry of anticipation in 1932. 'The premises [on Stodman Street]', reported the Newark Advertiser, ' will be demolished and rebuilt. The interior will be 32 ft wide and 156 ft long.. This will make a room nearly twice the size of the town hall.' Woolworths finally departed - much lamented - in 1984. (Antoine)
