The whole town of Newark was brilliantly illuminated by the leaping flames of a huge fire which broke out last night at the malt kilns of Messrs Gilstrap, Earp and Co, Northgate... Windows in the vicinity reflected the flames like a hundred mirrors and sparks festooned themselves across the sky like flying rockets.' The Newark Advertiser, 9.4.1930. (Antoine).
