The picture is taken from the east bank of the River Trent (close to the Britannia Inn) looking north west towards Staythorpe. The earliest known reference to there being a ferry at Farndon comes from 1583 in the time of Elizabeth I. (Information kindly supplied by Farndon Local History Society)
