Looking north from site of demolished Castle Waterworks, Castle Road and Lenton Boulevard (changed to Castle Boulevard in 1907).Nestled in the rock below Nottingham Castle, the houses that are in the distance on the right are part of a group of 17th century cottages some of which have since been converted for use by the Brewhouse Yard Museum. Thomas Sandby, the famous Nottingham artist did an illustration in 1741 which shows the area in detail, including trees, Rock Cottage, chimneys and the Gate Hangs Well public house.
