The railway station was built in 1849 by James Drabble of Carlton in Lindrick for the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway Company, which was later taken over by the GCR Great Central Railway. The contract price for the railway and nearby warehouse was £7,850. It is a grade II listed building, built in grey Steetley stone in a Jacobean style
