Worksop Railway Station

Carlton Road
Worksop
Nottinghamshire
England

Master Cutler' Pullman coming into Worksop from the East on the Kings-Cross to Sheffield route. An English Electric type 4 diesel (class 40). View shows track and buildings on the approach to Worksop Station. C. E. Seeds Maltings on the right, those of Edward Sutcliffe on the left. Some classes of diesel locomotive could be identified solely be their engine sounds. In the case of the English Electric (E.E.) 'Type 4', after renumbering the class eventually came to be nicknamed 'Whistlers', presumably for their diagnostic, high-pitched tinkling sound. EE4s' had ceased to visit Worksop by 1964, by which time haulage of The Master Cutler was provided by an experimental diesel-electric locomotive, known as the 'DP2'.
