The flag is flying as they have found coal. Bilsthorpe was sunk by the Stanton Ironworks Company in 1925-7 at a cost of £1.2 million and closed on 26 March 1997, having passed from the publicly owned British Coal in 1994 to RJB Mining (UK) Ltd.
