The aircraft is a Messerschmitt Bf109 Fighter (Bf109 E black 2 of 5.JG54 flown by Lt. Ernst Wagner on 25 October 1940). It is unlikely that the aircraft crashed in this area as they only had a range of 547 miles. (This usually meant acting as an escort for bombers to London from France, 15 minutes over the target and back to France) It was probably transported by road as part of the war effort.
