Hucknall was the first town in Nottinghamshire where the street lighting was wholly powered by electricity. This was achieved by the drive and foresight of the councils Engineer and Surveyor Mr P B Sutton. The program of works to replace all gas lighting was commenced in 1964 and completed by 1965.
