Brierley Park

Sutton in Ashfield
Nottinghamshire
England

Much of the land in Brierley Forest Park was occupied by a colliery yard and associated spoil heap. These had lain derelict since the colliery closed. Other parts of the site included former agricultural land and a recreation ground. Brierley Forest Park has created a new Community Forest within the wider Greenwood Community Forest. The project has enhanced the existing ecology and provided new habitats through the creation of meadows, woodland, hedgerows and wetland. New paths, a visitor centre and other recreation facilities have been built. The project along with a new adjacent industrial estate has created much needed employment. The large building in the distance in this view is the old CWS factory, latterly the Meritina factory at North Street, Huthwaite.
