The hall was described by Leonard Jacks as 'a solid handsome building of red brick relieved by white stone dressings'. The house dates from the 18th century and the surrounding grounds were laid out by Repton. The restoration work was done in 1850 by William Burn, who added plate-glass windows and a top balustrade.
