Prototype English Electric 'Deltic' at Newark Northgate

The locomotive is now preserved in the National Railway Museum in York. The picture shows the prototype English Electric 'Deltic' diesel locomotive pulling away from the south end of the 'up' platform at Newark Northgate, 9th July 1960. Following the success of this engine, British Railways Eastern Region ordered 22 production models as replacements for its mainline steam fleet.
