Chain Lane
Newark on Trent
England

This is Chain Lane – an old street (now pedestrian only) leading from the Market Place to a shopping area behind the Town Hall. This photo was taken in 1965. The entrance behind the ‘Toilets’ sign also gave access to the town’s old ‘Slipper Baths’ – a public bath house. Visible in the picture are N E Kirkman & Sons flower shop and the Kings Head Public House (left).
