This pub was formerly known as the 'Ram Inn', but is was renamed in 1894 in honour of the Sherwood Ranger Yeomanry Regiment. The Regiment was formed in 1794 and based in Retford. The inn sign suggests the forestry rangers once patrolled Sherwood Forest.
