This is a view looking east down what is now called Burns Lane - then known as Bottom (or Lower) Back Lane. The building on the left is the old Police House, now the site of the carpark for Somerfield supermarket - the tree survives in the corner of the car park. The scaffolding visible beyond the row of cottages on the right is for the extension of Town End Cottage, then the Estate Office for Welbeck Estates. The extension was built circa 1880, so the photo dates from then, although it is post marked 1909.
