Sanitorium opened as The Notts Sanitorium, a Tuberculosis Hospital, in 1902, on 50 acres of land on Ratcher Hill, given by the Duke of Portland. The main physician was Dr William Bramwell Ransom, and at his death in 1909, the Sanatorium was named after him.
