An unknown RAF Hurricane Fighter Pilot in his cockpit

Watnall Road - Hucknall aerodrome ?
Hucknall
England

Judging by the badge on the side of this Hurricane Mk.1 these fighter aircraft were delivered when 504 was still designated a bomber sqn. This was the 504 (bomber) sqn emblem. This dates the picture to around 1938. It's possible that the pilot pictured here is one of the two Royce's who flew with them from 1930s through battle of France and Battle of Britain. He was one of the pilots who went with 151 Wing to Russia in Sept-Oct 1941. The notation on the back of the picture says 'paid for by subscription from Notts' (bought from local donations as part of the war effort during World War 2). See NCCC001655 for the plaque commemorating this. According to BOOT. H. and STURTIVANT. R. Gifts of war: Spitfires and other presentation aircraft in two world wars. 2005. p.389 - a Hurricane 2b. no. Z3777 was presented to the RAF by the South Notts SPIFIRE Fund; and this served with 601 Squadron before being shipped to Russia on 22 October 1941. See also NCCC000038, may be the same occasion.
