Demolition of Thackeray's Lane railway bridge, Woodthorpe

Thackeray's Lane
Woodthorpe,_Nottinghamshire
England

Mechanical diggers and a truck demolishing a railway bridge on the Nottingham Suburban Railway, looking north east. The Nottingham Suburban Railway ran from the Trent Lane Junction on the GNR Nottingham-Grantham Line to Daybrook, with 1048 yards of tunnels and a climb of over 200 feet in 3.75 miles. The railway opened in 1886 and was used for passenger services until the 1930's. The last section of the railway was not closed until 1954. A large proportion of the railway line has now been covered with houses and gardens. The traffic island at the bottom of Breck Hill Road is behind the lorry.
