Zachariah Green

Hucknall
England

There is a Grade II listed memorial granite drinking fountain in Titchfield Park dedicated to a Zachariah Green and 3 other members of the family (presumably the same man as shown on the photograph here, because the sculptured head looks identical to the elderly seated gentleman here). Born May 5th 1817 in a cottage on the high street, opposite the Chequers Inn, and died January 22nd 1897 and was buried in the Churchyard at St Mary Magdalene. The inscription on it says that he was 'a native of this town and gifted with the art of healing and spent his life alleviating the suffering of his fellow men'. The fountain was erected out of public subscription and originally stood in the Market Square and was probably re-sited when Titchfield Park was opened in 1922.
