The Gas holders were officially inaugurated on 6th November 1903 by the Mayor of Mansfield, Mr John Crampton (d.1924), fourth from left of the left-hand upright. This new holder increased the capacity for gas storage from 44 to 120 million cubic feet per year. Designed by Mr. Graham, the Gas Manager and built by Mssrs.
