Clerkson Street

The photograph was taken in 1863 (which makes it one of the oldest photographs on this web-site) at the time of the celebrations of the marriage of Edward, The Prince of Wales (1841-1910) to Princess Alexandra. The Landlord, Mr George Else, held a sheep roasting in the street. The licence was later transferred to the Grove Tavern opposite and the building became a shop.
