Clerkson Hall was built in 1620. Up until 1877 it was owned by the Beardall Family. After that it was used by the Duke of Portland as Estate offices. It was later owned by the Coal Board. The cross in the foreground stands at, what was once, the centre of the village on Cross Hill.
