A five bay, L shaped 18th century house with later additions (see NCCW000450) which stood at right angles to the street. It is here used as a school. It was first run as a commercial academy by William Espin in 1819 (see NCCW000451), then from the mid 19th century run by Richard (a churchwarden from St John's from 1873-8) and William Tyrer, and offered the teaching of 'the classics, mathematics, and the usual english subjects' included in the fees, ranging from 12-16 Guineas per annum for day borders, to 30-35 Guineas per annum for year round borders. Extras could be taught at a fee of 1 Guinea a quarter in French, German, drawing and land surveying. Also pupils would have to pay for music and dancing lessons and the laundress charged 10-13 Shillings per quarter for laundry. It was later called St Peter's Institute.
