Ivatt Class 2 used for Mansfield to Chilwell Ordnance Depot weekday service. Note the small figures near the bottom of the smokebox door (i.e. below the engine number) on both engines. This is the 'shed-plate' on which is an alpha-numeric 'shed-code'. The numbers give the geographical area (for example, '16' indicated a Nottingham area shed) and the letter gave the name of the depot the engine was allocated too. Unlike the engine's number, the shed-code was not permanent, and naturally changed if the engine was re-allocated to another depot. For various reasons the code for the shed, both the letter and the numbers, were also sometimes altered; in summer 1961 Kirkby-in-Ashfield's shed-code was '16B', later becoming '16E'.
