The pub was once a house occupied by Samuel Brunts (of Brunts Charity). Later occupied by Robert Watson, Carpenter and Churchwarden, who constructed some of the windmills on Skerry Hill. He gave a bell to St Peter's Church and was instrumental in completing the peal, hence the name of his house and later the public house. Acquired by Mansfield Brewery in 1895, rebuilt 1925 and 1974. Re-opened after refurbishment as Russells.
