View from Walkden Street junction showing premises between Chauncer Street and Stockwell Gate. The Empire (extreme left) opened as a variety theatre in 1914, later becoming a cinema. It was demolished in 1973. Rosemary School (second left) was Mansfield's first elementary school. It opened for the reception of pupils on 1st May 1899 and was officially opened on 25 April 1900 by the Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council Education Committee, Lord Belper (1840-1914).
