A Nottingham City Fire Brigade Bedford TK Type B water tender, probably photographed at The Forest when newly delivered. It features Hampshire Car Bodies (HCB-Angus from 1964) bodywork. The Type B resulted from the work of the Joint Committee on Design and Development of Appliances and Equipment (JCDD). Based on experience during World War Two, the JCDD produced national specifications for fire-fighting equipment and performance in order to standardise what was on offer from different manufacturers. The B Type had a built-in engine-driven fire pump and water tank and carried smaller ladders. The Bedford TK chassis, which replaced the S Type (also favoured for fire appliances), was launched in 1959 and proved to be a long-lived design, being made by Bedford up to 1986 and then by AWD, solely for military use, from 1988 until 1992.
