Text written at the time of the photograph, by the photographer: Conversion of the bed of the former Grantham Canal to form part of the Eastern Loop Road, looking north from the site of Lady Bay Bridge. The pile of rubble in the centre was once the bridge that carried the railway over the canal. The embankment, right, carried it to the bridge, over the river and onto the Midland Station, both of which are to be utilised for road traffic on completion of the scheme. Beyond the fence on the right is Boots the Chemist and the Sports Ground. Beyond the embankment is the City incinerator at Eastcroft and the tower of St Mary's church in the Lace Market. In the centre background are the GNCS Dairy premises on the south side of Meadow Lane. See image NCCS002512 for the view looking from the south, from Lady Bay Bridge.
