Local folklore has it that Monks Lane derives its name from monks who traversed this tract of land from their hermitage in the West Leake Hills to the Church of St Lawrence in Gotham. The farmhouse on the left is early 18th century and those on the right, behind the elm tree, are mid 18th century.
