Opened in 1879 jointly by W. F. Webb and the Newstead Colliery Company. The extensive use of mansard roofs and larger multi-paned dormer windows made the building stand out among the plain terraced houses of this coal mining village. It was later styled Newstead County Primary School and more recently (2013) Newstead Primary and Nursery School. Looking north-west.
