British Railways 'Britannia' Class 4-6-2 No 70041 Sir John Moore heads the Harwich (Parkeston Quay)-Liverpool Central boat train past Sturton Crossing. Known familiarly as the 'Harwich Boat Train', this long-established service connected the north of England with the continental ferries at Harwich. Sturton Crossing was where Gainsborough Road crossed the Sheffield-Retford-Gainsborough railway line but it was later replaced by an overbridge, this coinciding with the construction of West Burton Power Station, which occupied a site to the right of the train. Construction of this commenced in 1958 and it was brought into use 10 years later. As there is no sign here as yet of the power station, this view must pre-date 1958.
