Sherwood Lodge was built about 1790 just within the NW boundary of Arnold District. The list owner of Sherwood Lodge was Henry Coape, who later changed his name to Coape-Sherbrooke. In the early 1900s Sir Charles Seeley JP, lived in the lodge and enlarged the main building. After a period as the National Coal Boards HQ the site is now uses as the County Police Headquarters, a private hospital and Burntstump Country Park.
