George Smith was a butcher of Carolgate, seen here promoting his home-made suet as well as other advertisements for local events and businesses, with his cow-pulled cart. The writing beneath the picture, which appeared in a local publication says:- 'Nigger', the thoroughly schooled hackney steer with attractive harness and wagon can be hired for demonstrative display advertising. The original novel attraction (probably the only one in England) commands admiration and compels attention wherever it goes. Delicate models or any display can be carried under cover. Two miniature houses available for suitable display.'
