The opening of the vault of William Edgar Allen at the Priory Church Yard

The vault was opened at the express wish of Eric Simons, Information Officer of Edgar Allen and Co. There was a mystery surrounding Edgar Allens parentage and date of birth and the opening of the vault was the first step of the hunt. It was hoped that a deed box was buried with his ashes in the vault. This however proved false and the vault only contained Edgar Allen's ashes. Those present are L to R Mr Eric Simons (Inf. Officer Edgar Allen and Co Sheffield), Mr C H Waters (acting Town Clerk), ? (Solicitor of Public Trustee), Councillor J Wilkinson (Dep Mayor Worksop), C O Allsop (Borough Engineer), W Straw and S Shipstone (Superintendent, Worksop Div. Notts Constabulary).
