Built 1813, this is an example of earlier pre-state education for the children of workers, organised by the church or other voluntary societies, and superseded in 1870 by the Forster Education Act which introduced National and local School Boards, (who were to examine the provision of elementary education in their district, provided then by Voluntary Societies, and if there were not enough school places, they could build and maintain schools out of the rates)
