Retford town hall stands on the south side of the Market Place, next to the Half Moon Pub. It is built in the 'Francois I' style (early French Renaissance named after Francis I, 1515-47, marked especially by an all-over use of small-scale classical ornament), and was executed by Bellamy and Hardy of Lincoln in 1866-8.
