Shirebrook (West) station, Shirebrook, 1871

Station Road
Shirebrook
England

Looking south when newly completed as part of the Midland Railway's line from Mansfield to Worksop and showing the main station building with the goods shed and signal box in the distance. The house for the station master is at extreme left. Originally named plain Shirebrook, in later years it was renamed Shirebrook West to distinguish it from Shirebrook South and Shirebrook North, stations constructed as part of later lines. Closed to passengers in 1964, it was subsequently reopened (once again as 'Shirebrook') as part of the Robin Hood Line scheme, linking Nottingham, Mansfield and Worksop. Although given the suffix 'West', it was in fact the easternmost of the town's railway stations!
