The Old Rectory stood on Church Road at the foot of Cuckney Hill and was demolished in 1967. The oldest part of the building was the eastern end (on the right here), which was of 16th or 17th century date, the structure being re-fronted during the 18th century in Georgian style, thus disguising its earlier origins. The western end (on the left) was probably added in the 19th century, as was the two-storey porch, which included window mullions and a door frame re-used from an older building, hence its 'antique' appearance. An interesting feature in the eastern portion of the house was a wooden spiral staircase, fashioned around a carved tree trunk rising the whole height of the building. The roof comprised stone slates held together using deer bones. Arranged around a courtyard were outhouses, including a laundry, game pantry and a stable block with a mounting stone. When demolition was first proposed, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government attempted to save the building by putting it up for sale but there were no takers and the site was redeveloped for housing with a replacement rectory erected in the grounds.
