John Harrop White, 1856-1951. Harrop White was a solicitor, co-founder of the firm bearing his name. He served as an improvement commissioner, then as a councilor from 1882 to 1894. He was Town Clerk 1900-1923, Mayor in 1923-4 and was awarded the Freedom of the Borough in 1924. Among other appointments, he was Clerk to Warsop U.D.C. from 1884-1935, Chairman of the Governors of Brunts School and the Country Technical College and a Governor of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School. He served on the Board of Mansfield and District Hospital from its inception in 1881 to the formation of the Nation Health Service in 1948. He was President of the General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches during 1931-2. A staunch Unitarian, Freemason and Liberal.
