This machinery which was once at Linby Colliery, can now be found at the National Coal Mining Museum near Wakefield, Yorkshire (see http://www.ncm.org.uk/). The following extract is taken from Terry Blythe's extensive website: The Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Coal Fields. Full information about Lindy Colliery can be found at http://www.terryblythe.co.uk/page74.html Situated in the picturesque village of Linby around six miles north of Nottingham Linby Colliery was one of the oldest remaining working mines in the country. An extremely profitable and productive pit throughout the 60's, Linby's fortunes began to decline in the late 70's when the High Main seam the mainstay for over 40 years started to exhaust. Production from the replacement High Hazels began in 1978 but reserves were limited and conditions difficult. During 1987 it became apparent that the pit was experiencing serious problems. Despite the best endeavours of men and management results had deteriorated and conditions on current and planned coal faces indicated that the situation was likely to worsen rather than improve. In November 1987 faced with these facts and the lack of viable reserves the decision was taken, reluctantly to close the colliery by March 25th 1988.
