Probably Newark's most distinguished local historian, Cornelius Brown, whose 'History of Newark' (published 1904-07) remains to this today the most complete study of the town's distinguished past. Brown was editor of 'The Newark Advertiser' for the 33 years and died October 1907, just days before the second volume of his history was published. Mr. Brown is pictured in the study in his house at No. 4 Magnus Street, Newark.
