Shire Hall on High Pavement was rebuilt and enlarged between 1877-79 by T C Hine after a disastrous fire which broke out 1 December 1876. County felons were executed in front of the hall between 1827 and 1864. The Shire Hall now stands empty awaiting finance to repair and refurbish to be opened as a museum.
